Brass Embossing Plates

Embossed brass refers to a die made from brass metal that has been machined with raised or sculpted patterns used to press designs into paper or packaging materials. Brass is chosen for multi-level, sculptured, and combination dies because its density and durability allow it to hold intricate detail and withstand repeated high-pressure production runs.

Making a custom embossing plate starts with vector artwork, typically saved as an Adobe Illustrator EPS file, which is processed through specialized die-making software. The design is then CNC-routed into copper or brass depending on complexity, with single-level designs using copper and multi-level or sculptured designs requiring brass for added durability and detail.

Copper dies are typically used for single-level embossing and foil stamping, suited to simpler raised designs. Brass dies are used for multi-level, sculptured, and combination embossing because the material holds finer detail and withstands the added pressure and complexity required for high-relief, premium packaging finishes.

Standard single-level embossing dies typically ship within 3 days. Brass multi-level, sculptured, or combination dies require more intricate machining and are quoted on a per-project basis, allowing accurate scheduling based on design complexity and production volume.

Brass embossing plates can be produced for sheet sizes up to slightly larger than 35" x 49", accommodating projects ranging from small business card runs to large-format packaging, folding cartons, and promotional materials.

Dies are constructed from Adobe Illustrator EPS files processed through Cimek die-making software. PDF, JPEG, TIFF, and AI files are not directly supported, so artwork should be finalized as vector EPS files before submission to avoid delays in die production.
